Hey, I’m Karen Mills
You know most of us grow up chasing an idea of perfection that was never real to begin with.
I was very fortunate to grow up in a home filled with love. My parents gave me everything they could within their means, not out of excess, but out of care.
What I remember most isn't the things I had, but the lessons woven into how I was raised and that was to share, to think of others before myself, and to help wherever I could.
That upbringing shaped the person I've become. It taught me that generosity isn't about how much you have, but about how willing you are to give what you can.
That’s why I’m here today because I want to share my journey with you and help you to come out on the other side of this financial journey just like I did.
The important point I’m making is a childhood built on love and generosity does not make a person immune to life's ups and downs because no one is exempt from that, however it does hand them a steadier foundation to stand on when the waves come.
Looking back, I realise that happiness was never found in what I received, but in what I learned to offer others.
Somewhere along the way, we're told that a good life is smooth, steady, and predictable and that if we just work hard enough, love enough, plan enough, things will fall into place and stay there. But life just do not work that way and it never has.
The truth is life moves in waves, not straight lines. There are seasons of clarity and seasons of confusion. We have days when everything clicks and we feel on top of the world and then we have days when nothingseems to go right.
This isn't a flaw in the system it is actually the system. Growth rarelyhappens in comfort. It happens in the gap between where we are and where we're trying to go.
The hard seasons are not proof that something has gone wrong. Often they are proof that something is changing. Trees don't grow in straight lines either; they bend toward light, adjust to storms, lose leaves so they can grow new ones and we are just the same.
Most of life is lived in the in-between and not at the highs, nor at the lows, but in the ordinary stretch of days where we're simply trying our best.
We are shaped by our beginnings, but we are definitely not sentenced to repeat them.
Life will always keep moving in waves and that part isn't optional but what is optional, over time, is how we make changes to improve our lives.
